The concept of entrepreneurship has become importance through changing from industrial society to information society and has been begun to find acceptance as driving force that provide economic development. Consequently, entrepreneurship has become a cynosure for many researchers from various disciplines. This has caused to development of entrepreneurship as a multi disciplinary field. Nonetheless, there is no absolute consensus on the definitions of entrepreneur and entrepreneurship. However, it is widely accepted that economic, social and physiological factors have been highly formative for the determination and definition these concepts. Various researchers classify different types of entrepreneurs depending on the properties of them. These typologies extend the discussions about the definition and the theory of entrepreneurship and the behaviors of entrepreneurs. Furthermore, these typologies are one of the most important references for policy makers that being used to determining current entrepreneur structure to stimulate entrepreneur-based economic development. Personal development is also notable factor that playing a role forming better entrepreneur type. This study aims to display that whether personal development is effective for forming entrepreneur types or not by examining entrepreneur types in SMEs in Antalya and İsparta provinces.

Girişimcilik konusu sanayi toplumundan bilgi toplumuna geçişle birlikte büyük bir önem kazanmış ve ekonomik gelişmeyi sağlayan temel itici güç olarak kabul edilmeye başlanmıştır. Dolayısıyla da girişimcilik pek çok disiplinden araştırmacının ilgi odağı olmuştur. Bu ise kavramın çok disiplinli bir alan olarak gelişmesini sağlamış ve literatürde hala girişimcinin kim olduğu ve girişimciliğin ne olduğu konusunda ortak bir fikir birliği bulunamamasına neden olmuştur. Fakat buna rağmen girişimciliğin tanımında ve belirleyici özelliklerinde ekonomik, sosyal ve psikolojik faktörlerin oldukça önemli olduğu herkes tarafından kabul edilmektedir. Pek çok yazar, girişimcileri sahip oldukları özelliklere göre çeşitli tipler halinde sınıflandırmaktadır. Bu tipolojiler hem girişimcilerin tanımına ve davranışına, hem de girişimcilikle ilgili teorik yapıya katkı sağlamaktadır. Bunun yanında tipolojiler, girişimci temelli ekonomik kalkınmayı sağlamada politika yapıcılar için mevcut girişimci yapısını ölçmede kullanılabilecek en önemli referanslardan biridir. Kişisel gelişim ise, girişimci düşüncenin daha sağlam temeller üzerine kurulmasını sağlayarak, daha iyi bir girişimci tipinin oluşmasında rol oynayan dikkate değer bir faktördür. Bu çalışma, Antalya ve İsparta'da imalat sanayinde faaliyet gösteren KOBİ'lerde girişimci tiplerinin incelenerek, kişisel gelişimin girişimci tiplerinin oluşumunda etkili olup olmadığının ortaya konulmasını amaçlamaktadır.
