Göstergebilimsel Yaklaşım Yazınsal Alanda Ne Denli İşlevselleşebilir?

There is serious debate on the applicability of the semiotic approach -one of the subdiscip-lines of linguistics- to the literary studies. In this study, with reference to the explanation trial developed by Roland Possner, the semiotic approach will be explored from the perspective of lite¬rary studies. In the debate over the connection between literature and semiotics, the term "poetic" - used in the context of the systematical description or explanation of the qualities of literary or poetical communication - surfaces as one of the basic concepts. The distinctive quality of literary communication, which is one of the types of linquistic communication, is its aesthetic quality or function. Plot and style, taking shape as a result of the author's choosing the signs freely from the general language system and putting them together, are the basic criteria revealing the literary value of the work. Fictionalizing and styling, within the context of semiotics, are accomplished mostly via the "aesthetic code". In order for the recipient to perceive the totality of signs -the message and the level of aest¬hetic appreciation the work conveys- properly, he needs to make the signs and codes operational. In this process, for a correct perception of the work in question, it is important that the author mo¬ve out of the ordinary signs system and analyze the signs that have the quality of reminiscence re¬sulting from the author's references to historical and social experiences and events.
