In the essence of the criticisms is the idea that one cannot pass from "I think" to "I exist". Besides it is often put forward that this proposition is also an inference. Düşünüyorum demek ki varım' önermesi (ya da ilkesi) felsefe tarihinde üzerine en çok yazı yazılan ve tartışılan, eleştirilen önermelerden biridir. Eleştirilerin odağında "düşünüyo-rum"dan "varım"a geçilemeyeceği düşüncesi yer almaktadır. Ayrıca, bu önermenin bir çıkarım olduğu da sıklıkla öne sürülmektedir. Bu yazıda, Descartes'ın bu önermeyi felsefesinin temeline koyarken amacının ne olduğu; önermenin totolojik bir önerme olduğu; önermenin bir çıkarım olmadığı gösterilmeye çalışılacaktır.
