This study was conducted as quasi-experimental to determine the effect of an education program on the lifestyle changes and compliance to drug therapy of patients with hypertension diagnosis. 45 patients were recruited to this study who applied to hypertension, obesity and diabetes center of Mugla State Hospital in between October 2005 and December 2005. Mean age of patients was 51.0 ± 9.9 year, and 53.3 % graduated from primary school, 64.4 % female and 84.4 % was married. Following the education program the rate of patients who practice exercises and adjust to diet therapy has increased whereas the number of smokers has not changed. There was a significant decrease on daily consumption of foods ( except meat group) which are rich in saturated fat and cholesterol, but, there was an important increase on the consumption of legumes, fruits and vegetables. After a six month follow-up period all of the patients used their drugs according to the prescribed dose and frequency.

Bu çalışma, bir eğitim programının hipertansiyon tanısı alan hastaların yaşam tarzı değişikliği ve ilaç tedavisi uyumuna etkisini belirlemek için yarı deneysel olarak yapılmıştır. Muğla Devlet Hastanesi hipertansiyon, obesite ve diyabet merkezine Eylül - Aralık 2005 tarihleri arasında başvuran 45 hasta araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Hastaların yaş ortalaması 51.0 ± 9.9 yıl, %64.4’ü kadın ,%53,3’ü ilköğretim mezunu ve %84.4’ü evlidir. Eğitim programını takiben hastaların düzenli egzersiz yapma ve diyetine uyma oranlarında önemli bir artış olmuş, sigara içme oranında ise bir değişiklik olmamıştır. Doymuş yağ ve kolesterolden zengin besinlerin (et grubu hariç) günlük tüketim oranında önemli bir azalma, buna karşılık kurubaklagiller, meyve ve sebze tüketiminde ise önemli bir artış olmuştur. Hastaların tamamı altı aylık izlem sonunda ilaçlarını önerilen doz ve sıklıkta kullanmışlardır.
