Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of this study was to determine the changes in resistance and reactance values in lying position over 10 minutes. Thirty male (11 volleyball, 8 endurance runners, 1 basketball players, 5 football players, 5 sedentaries) between the ages of 15-17 years old parti popülasyoncipated in this study as volunteers. Body weight (BW), height and Bioelectric Impedance (BIA) measurements were performed at least 4 hours after breakfast between 11.00 and 13.00 hrs. Each subject’s resistance and reactance values were recorded 11 times, at the beginning of the lying position (0th min) and each minute over 10 minutes. According to the results of Repeated Measure ANOVA there was significant time effect in reactance values (F(29,290)=2.212; p=0.017) measured over 10 minutes, however, no time effect was found in resistance values (F(29,290)=1.054; p=0.39). Bonferroni multiple post-hoc tests were performed to determine which minute(s) created the difference in reactance values. However, Bonferroni test results showed no significant change in reactance values over 10 minutes. In conclusion, resistance and reactance values of BIA measurements were not affected by postural changes over 10 minutes in lying position indicating no considerable change in conductance characteristics of biological tissues over that time. Therefore, BIA measurements in population studies can be performed with confidence within the first 10 minutes after lying down.
