Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 8 weeks of step aerobics and aerobic dancing on physical fitness of female university students. 48 sedentary female university students between the ages of 19-28 voluntarily participated in this study and were randomly assigned to step aerobics (n=16), aerobics dancing (n=16) and control group (n=16). Both step aerobics and aerobics dancing groups participated in sessions of 45 minutes per day, 3 days per week for 8 weeks with 60-70 % their heart rate reserve. During this period subjects'flexibility, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance were determined. For flexibility the sit and reach test and for muscular endrurance sit-up for one minute was used. For cardiovascular endurance maximal oxygen consumption was determined by Bruce protocol. One-way ANOVA and Tukey test were used for statistical analysis. After the analysis significant difference was found in muscular endurance (F=10.88, p<.05) and maximal oxygen uptake (F=13.23, p<.05) between the control group and both step aerobics and aerobic dancing group while in flexibilty significant difference was found between the control group and the step aerobics group (F=6.32, p<.05). As a conclusion it was found that these two programs were not different from each other in developing physical fitness however step aerobics was more effective than aerobics dancing.
