Abstract (2. Language):
The effect of supramaximal physical activity on intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities is estimated in the present study. Two different supramaximal exercise protocols (Wingate and Modified Wingate) were pllanned and applied for this aim. Wingate protocol is an supramaximal activity that is applied with 75 g/kg load for 30 seconds and modified protocol is applied with same load for 6 seconds followed 30 seconds of resting phase for 10 times. Ten healthy sedentary male volunteers (aged between 18-25 years) and 10 male bicyclists (aged among 16-28 years) were participated in the study. Blocd samples were drawn before and after Wingate and modified Wingate protocol and erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalese activities and plasma and erythrocyte Cu, Zn levels were measured. Statistical analyses were performed with student t test. It was thought that supramaximal exercise caused production of excessive amount of free radicals and consequently oxidant stress and trained individual possesses more powerful capacity of antioxidant defense in comparison with sedentary individuals.
