Abstract (2. Language):
Aim: The present study was planned to investigate the effect of alcohol on the ileum mast cell population of rats at the light microscopic level. Methods: The experimental group was fed with a modified liquid diet (MLD) With containing 7.2 %of ethanol during six months. Control rats were fed by isocaloric MLD without ethanol. At the end of experimental feeding period samples were fixed in %10 formaldehyde and stained with %0.5 Toluidin blue and Haematoxylin Eosin. Mast cells in all section were counted using a magnifying ofX40. Results: In alcoholic rats mast cells degranulation and the number of the mitoses in the crypts were to be found increased. Conclusion: This study revealed that ileum mast cell population was significantly reduced in alcohol feeding group when compared with liquid diet group.
