Abstract (2. Language):
This study was planned to investigate the changes on erythrocyte membrane Na+-K+ATPase ve Ca3+ ATPase activities and sialic acid levels that may be related to aging. An insignificant decrease was obtained in the crythracyte membrane Na+-K+ATPase and Ca2+ ATPase activities of 14 old subjects wİth a mean age of 64 accor-ding to the enzyme activities of the 14 young subjects whose mean age was 28. The İntracellu-lar and extracellular Na+ and K+ concentrations and the plasma and erythrocyte membrane sİ-alİc levels were found with a tendeney to inerease in the elder subjects but only the plasma Na+ inerease was significant. According to these findings, it is thougt these two enzyme activities were not affected with inereasing age and (he aging process do not make some negative changes on celi volume and homeostasis mechanisms and on membrane stmeture.
