Abstract (2. Language):
Evahıaüon of the imbalance between antioxidant activity and lipid peroxidation in preec-lamptic patienls. The objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that maternal plasma lipid peroxİdatİon products are increased and antioxidants are decteased in women with mild pre-eclampsia. Fasting venous plasma were collected from normal pregnant (n=16) and mild pre-eclamptic women (n-16). Plasma total antioxidant status and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were measured by colorimetric assay. Plasma maternal concentratİons of total antioxidant status and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were not signifi-cantly differcnt in pre-eclampsia as compared with normal pregnancy (p> 0.05). When the va-riables in the same groups were measured, we found a negative correlation between total anti-oxidant status and TBARS in the normal group (r= -0.60, p<0.05). In the mild precclamplic women wc could not find a correlation betwcen total antioxidant status and TBARS (r=0.05, p>0.05). The findİngs in this study show that there is an imbalance between antioxidant defen-ces and lipid peroxidation İn precclamptic patients.
