Abstract (2. Language):
In this study, the effects of cigarette smoking on salivary amylase activity has been investigated by using Wohlgemuths's methods on 40 smoking and nonsmoking persons and it has been found that there is a significant increase in amylase activity in cigarette smoking group. However there has not been found any significant differences İn amylase activity related to sex. It has been thought that the increase of amylase activity is related with neurovascular reflex and stimulation oj reseptors which are on oral, lingual andfaryngeal mucosa by irritation of smoking.
