ORAL LICHEN PLANUS (OLP) AND MALIGNANT TRANSFORMATION: A CASE REPORT

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
OLP is a relatively common, chronic inflammatory disease of the mucous membranes affecting between 0.5% and 2.2% of the population in epidemiological studies. The buccal mucosa, tongue and gingiva are the most common sites, whereas palatal lesions are uncommon. OLP has been found to satisfy the WHO criteria of a premalignant condition. The majority of studies have revealed a malignant transformation rate of OLP of 0.5-2% over a 5-year period. In this paper we presented a case of oral lichen planus which showed malign transformation after in follow-up period.
