The Assessment of the Stability of Implants Placed in the Mandibular Interforaminal Region in Relation to Bone Quality

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Purpose: The purpose of Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA) is to assess the stability of dental implants in bone. It is expected that one of the factors influencing the RFA results is the bone quality, thus the aim of this study was to examine the relation between subjectively scored bone quality and implant stability. Material and Methods: 27 patients with 54 same sized implants placed in the mandibular interforaminal region by the same surgeon were included in the study. The surgeon has scored the bone quality according to the resistance felt during bone drilling. Additionally, the stability of the placed implants were measured with the Osstell™ mentor via Smartpeg™'s and the ISQ scores recorded. Results: While there was no type IV bone case among the patients, there were 4 cases of type I bone, 17 type II and 6 type III bones. No statistically significant differences were detected between the ISQ values of the bilaterally placed implants in relation to bone qualtiy types (p>0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of this study it is not advisable to relate the RFA scores with the bone quality type.
