A Critical Examination of the Two Discussions on Adhan (call to prayer)

In regard to recitation of adhan, there are two discussions among religious circles in Turkey. One of them is a practical; the other is a theoretical issue. The practical issue is that how should we read the last letter of akbar when we append two takbirs (allahu akbar=God is the greatest) in the recitation of adhan or iqamah; that is allahu akbaru'l-lahu akbar or allahu akbara'l-lahu akbar. The theoretical question is that is it permissible to recite adhan from a central broadcasting system, instead of reciting in every masjid individually by the imam or muadhdhin of each particular masjid. We examined the first issue in the context of naql in the science of readings (ilm al-qiraah), and lUvas and Didafah in Arabic grammar; while investigating the second issue in the sources of different madhabs (the schools of thought in Islamic law and jurisprudence). Also in this article, the importance of adhan in the religion of Islam is emphasized while the reason behind the jazm state of each phrase's end in adhan is explored. At the end of the article, some proposals and suggestions are offered to the Religious Affairs Department of Turkey about how different practices in regard to the recitation of adhan can be prevented, and how these discussions can be resolved before turning to an offensive issue among the devoted Muslims

Bu makalede 'ezân'ın dindeki yeri, önemi ve "ezanda kelimelerin sonlarının sessiz harf konumuna getirileceği.." rivâyetinin hikmeti ile ezan bağlamında iki tartışma konusu ele alındı. Bu tartışmalardan biri din görevlileri arasında görülen ezân ve kâmet'te 'ekber' kelimesinin 'Allah' lafzına ulanması durumunda 'râ' harfinin u veya a seslerinden hangisiyle seslendirileceği meselesi. İkincisi de merkezî sistemle ezân okunması hususunda toplumda gözlenen tartışmadır. Gerekçeleriyle birlikte tesbit edilen farklı görüşler bilimsel veriler ışığında analiz edildi. Birinci sorun Kırâat ilmindeki nakil, Sarftaki vasıl ve Nahivdeki izâfet kuralları çerçevesinde değerlendirildi. İkinci mesele de fıkhî mezheplerin bakış açıları kapsamında tahlil edildi. Sonuç olarak din görevlileri arasındaki uygulama farklılığın giderilmesi ve toplumda hoş karşılanmayan tartışmaların önüne geçilebilmesi için analizler yapıldı ve Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı'na bazı önerilerde bulunuldu.
