Brightness is one of the most used optical properties in pulp and paper industry. Brightness focuses narrow part of total visible spectrum and is affected by the fluorescent whitening agents. Therefore, it becomes insufficient for meeting the desires related to whiteness.

Selüloz ve kağıt sanayiinde günümüze kadar gelen ve en fazla kullanılan optik özelik "parlaklık"tır. Parlaklık görünür tayfın dar bir bölgesini kapsamakta ve flüoresan ajanlardan etkilenmektedir. Bu nedenle beyazlık ile ilgili istekleri karşılamada yetersiz kalmaktadır.
