Abstract (2. Language):
Functional linguistics aim to describe the languages. Functional description's aim is to identify the properties of a language and to discover what it is that differs this language from the others. In the analysis, one profits from communicational clarity and from the communicational function of the language. The analysis is based on a profound definition of language -which is very necessary-, and it proceeds by describing basic terms as phoneme, moneme and sign, a term of Saussure's that combines the form and the sense. It takes morphology as a science that analyses the ambigous morphological changes of the monemes' signifiers. When it comes to functionalists, the class term brings out two new terms : compatibility and mutual exclusion. Actually, the classes can be revealed through different properties, and they can be analysed one by one or together: morphological, axiological, syntactical and semantic properties.

İşlevsel dilbilim, dilleri betimlemeyi amaçlamaktadır, işlevsel betimleme bir dilin özelliklerini belirlemeyi, onu diğer dillerden ayıranın ne olduğunu göstermeyi amaçlar. Çözümlemede iletişimsel belirginlikten, dilin iletişim işlevinden yararlanılır. Çözümleme, son derece gerekli olan, yetkin bir dil tanımından güç alır; sesbirim, anlambirim ve biçim ile anlamı birleştiren bir Saussure terimi olan gösterge gibi temel kavramlar üzerinden ilerler. Biçimbilimi, anlambirimlerin gösterenlerinin belirgin olmayan biçimsel değişimlerini inceleyen bir dal olarak ele alır. İşlevselcilerde, sınıf kavramı beraberinde iki kavramı daha ortaya çıkarır: Compatibilite "bağdaşma"' ve "exclusion mutuelle" karşılıklı dışarlama.2 Aslında sınıflar, farklı ölçütler benimsenerek ortaya konulabilir, tek tek ya da bir arada ele alınabilirler: biçimbilimsel, değerbilimsel, anlambilimsel ve sözdizimsel ölçütler.
