Abstract (2. Language):
Getting families’ support and cooperating with them have great importance while planning education services offered to children with autism. For this reason it would be useful to know parents’ characteristics to improve functionality of the services which will be offered to them and their children with autism. The aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between autistic children parents’ broad autism phenotype and alexithymia characteristics and autistic individuals’ autistic characteristics. The study’s research method is relationship screening and the sample of the study consists of 270 individuals with autism and their parents (266 mothers, 228 fathers). For data collection; Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), Autism Spectrum Quotient (ASQ), and Gilliam Autsim Rating Scale (GARS-2) were used in the study. Results of the study revealed no significant relationship between autistic individuals’ GARS-2 sub-test and total test scores and their parents’ TAS sub-test and total test scores. While a significant negative correlation between Autistic individuals’ GARS-2 social skills sub-test scores and their mothers’ ASQ social skills subtest (r=-,143; p<,05) was found, no significant correlation between GARS-2 remaining sub-tests and total test scores and their mothers’ remaining sub-tests and total test score were found. Negative correlations were found between autistic individuals GARS-2 social skill sub-test scores and their fathers’ ASQ; communication (r=-,154; p<,05) and imagination (r=-,144; p<,05) and total test scores (r=-,142; p<,05).
