CURRENT TRENDS AND EXPERIENCES IN MACEDONIA’S UNIVERSITY EDUCATION

University education in Macedonia faces fast developments, achievements, difficulties and challenges as well, over the last few years. The share of this education in GDP increases considerably, the network of institutions is visibly expanding, while the market and offer of educational services, including those of private institutions-are well rising. Modernization of university education and the introduction of the Bologna process are an ongoing trend. Nevertheless, this dynamics is followed by some unfavorable consequences or limiting factors: funding difficulties, deficit of qualified staff, inefficiency and particularly- maintenance of traditional styles of management, organization, administration and planning. The authors examine the main streams in the developments of country’s university education, particularly from the viewpoint of performance of new styles of management and planning, as well as from comparative aspect, summarizing some research in Balkan and other countries.
