When compared to traditional schools, “green schools” present a healthier environment and have the lowest operation costs and negative effect on environment. A green school should have a great access to daylight, high indoor air quality, good acoustics and comfortable temperature. Light affects people’s performance and health through visual and circadian systems. Students who attend daylit green schools demonstrate higher achievement, and higher attendance rates than students who attend traditional schools using electricity for lighting. It was found that day lighting has positive effects on teacher’s motivation, job satisfaction and absenteeism.
