THE FOREIGN TRADE POTENTIAL OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS BETWEEN TURKEY AND AZERBAIJAN AND THEIR COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGES

Foreign trade is important for every country in the world. The best known way to increase the income of countries is by increase of foreign trade. Thus, in this study the foreign trade potentials and market structures of Turkey and Azerbaijan have been analyzed. In the study, foreign trade similarities of both countries in target markets and the competition advantages for similar product classes have been examined. To this end, comparative advantage index, export similarity ratio and Vollrath index have been used. The markets that both of these countries show similarity for product classes have been determined as EU and CIS. It has been determined that in general the competition power of Turkey is greater in EU member countries and that the competition power of Azerbaijan is greater in CIS countries. However it has been determined that the competition power of Turkey is greater than Azerbaijan for capital intensive products. It can be stated that the foreign trade structure of both of these countries are suitable to increase trade between them.
