M. Vedat. Bey (Tek)(1873-1943) is known Co be the f i r st formally trained a r c h i t e c t of Turkey. He was .the maker of f i r s t large buildings erected early in the present century. Grand Post Office, Land Registrary Council and Mesadet Estate Buildings in İstanbul and People's Party Headquarters in Ankara are among his master pieces. Apart from these, his r e s i d e n t i a l buildings are also noteworthy. The two residences Vedad Bey designed and b u i l t are exclusively important as they r e f l e c t the a r c h i t e c t 's point of view with no clientwise c o n s t r a i n t s, The F i r s t and Second Residences used to be located attached to each other on the newly developing area of Istanbul in 1910's. F i r s t Residence was demolished, only two photograps reached us to r e f l e c t what i t used to be. Second Residence (Vedad Bey Konağı) İs s t i l l surviving but with many a l t e r a t i o n s » especially i n t e r n a l l y and on the t e r r a c e . This a r t i c l e surveys Vedad Bey Konağı through some o r i g i n a l documents reinforced with some photographs of the present s i t u a t i o n.
