In this study, the residual stresses developing in carburized and only quenched steel of SAE 8620 (21NiCrMo2) which is widely used as a carburized steel (shafts, gears etc.) was investigated. Carburizing programs was carried out in gas atmosphere for 45 minute at 940 °C. X-ray analysis was used to determine residual stress in the microstructures of the only quenched and carburized specimens. The results of x-ray analysis have shown that while the carburized specimens have a residual compressive stress at the surface -551N/mm2, the only quenched specimens have a residual compressive stress at the surface -125 N/mm2.

Bu çalışmada, sementasyon çeliklerinde körsertleştirilmiş ve sementasyon yapılmış durumlarda meydana gelen artık gerilmeler araştırılmıştır. Malzeme olarak, dişli çarklar ve küçük çaplı millerin yapımında yaygın olarak kullanılan SAE 8620 (21NiCrMo2) çeliği seçilmiştir. Körsertleştirme yapılmış numuneler ile gaz atmosferinde 940 °C'de 45 dakika karbonlama ve suverme işlemleri yapılan numunelerin yüzeyinde ve kabuk bölgesindeki artık gerilmeler karşılaştırılmıştır. Numunelerin artık gerilme eğrileri X-ray diffraction metoduyla tespit edilmiştir. Sementasyon işlemi yapılmış numunenin yüzeyindeki artık bası gerilmesi -551 N/mm2 iken, körsertleştirme yapılmış numunenin yüzeyindeki artık bası gerilmesi - 125 N/mm2 'dir.
