Problem of lafz (word or sentence) and mana (meaning) discussed by the Arab critics.
Abu Hilal al-Askari, one of them, takes division between lafz and mana and discusses
each one separately. Although Abu Hilal al-Askari does not devote a specific chapter to
discussion of lafz and mana, he does examine them in various chapters of the Kitab as-
Sinaatayn. He also discussed several aspects, problems and defects of lafz and mana.
