Abstract (2. Language):
Work is too often thought of as simply a set of physical and mental activities. Although increasing numbers of people do some or all of their work via computer links to the workplace from the seclusion of their home offices, work is seldom a solitary activity. Rather, people’s work typically involves regular face–to–face relationships with co–workers and clients, subordinates and superiors, and countless others. There is widespread recognition that the activity of working and the outcomes flowing from working are of fundamental significance to most individuals. A majority of individuals in most societies derive the major part of their economic well–being from income generated by their work activities. It is evident that working activities also fulfill non– economic needs of individuals. The increasing levels of education in most industrialized countries and the sweeping developments that occur in the process of industrial development with reference to the possibilities of performing work in general and certain types of work in particular most certainly impact on the significance that is attached to working.
