Abstract (2. Language):
Objective: The purpose of the present study is to assess the kidney total volume and renal pelvis volume in rats using the stereological method. Materials and methods: In this study, we examined 20 kidney of 10 albino adult rats (male 5, female 5) with no anomalies and pathologies. The rats were weighing between 150-200 gr. Total kidney volume and renal pelvis volume were estimated using Cavalier Principles. The density of the kidney were calculated as well. Results: The volumes of the kidney were different between right and left sides and between sex. But, the ratios of the kidneys total volumes to renal pelvis volumes between right and left and sex was not significant (p>0.05). The correlation between the kidneys parameters were significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The kidney total volume and renal pelvis volume were different between sexes and right and left sides.
