FOLK SONGS: A NEW APPROACH TO THE INSTRUCTION IN SOCIAL STUDIES

The purpose of this study is to determine effect of folk-song -supported instruction on learning Social Studies subjects among the fourth grade students in elementary schools. This study has been conducted in spring semester of 2011-2012 school year in an elementary school located in downtow n Mugla, and which is subsidiary of Mugla Provincial Directorate of National Education. A total of 67 students have participated in the study. 34 of those students were in the experimental group while 33 of them consisted of the control group. A multiple choice achievement test consisting of 20 items and each item having four options has been implemented. The application span has been limited with 4 weeks. At the end of the study, in comparison to the control group a statistically meaningful difference in favor of experimental group which received song-folk-supported instruction in Social Studies class has emerged. According to the findings it has been judged that students in the experimental group were more successful than those in the control group.

Bu araştırmanın amacı ilkokul dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin Sosyal Bilgiler konularını öğrenmede "Türkü" destekli öğretimin ve öğrenmenin etkisini belirlemektir. Bu çalışma 2012-2013 Eğitim - Öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Muğla İl Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü'ne bağlı bir merkez ilkokulunda 4. Sınıf öğrencileri ile yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya toplam 67 öğrenci katılmıştır. Bunlardan 34'ü deney grubu, 33'ü ise kontrol grubudur. Araştırmada 4 seçenekli çoktan seçmeli 20 maddeden oluşan akademik başarı testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada uygulama süreci 4 hafta ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda sosyal bilgiler dersinde Türkü destekli etkinliklerle öğretim yapılan deney grubundaki öğrencilerin lehine kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre deney grubundaki öğrencilerin daha başarılı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
