Abstract (2. Language):
The world and Turkey is getting fastly older. An important share of the burden of chronic disease will be covered by developing countries. In developed countries, one third of primary care encounters are made by elderly people. This will certainly be the case in our country in the near future. In this article an attempt has been made to describe the periodical examination of elderly. Our aim is to show how to be helpful to this special risk group. Although the physical examination is not different from the the younger patient; the pres¬ence of higher frequency of chronic disease, the low reserves of the body, the decreased organ functions necessitate a more detailed and specific examination in the elderly. Preventive practice and the determination of social and physical risk factors have an important role to prevent complications and functional decline. A wide appli¬cation of this approach will improve the health of the elderly.
