Abstract (2. Language):
Objective: Gall stone disease is an attractive subject for investiga¬tors due to its frequency, burden on health system and uncertainty of etiology. In this study, we studied lipid parameters, one of the probable causes of gallstones, and its relation with stone size and number. Methods: We evaluated lipid levels, body mass indexes and their correlation with the size and number of gallstones in patients attending to the internal medicine and general surgery clinics in Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Education and Training Hospital. A control group with similar features was also recruited. The lipid levels of the two groups were compared. For statistical evaluation, data was analyzed using SPSS 16.0 programme. Chi square and stu¬dent t tests were used for analyses, p levels <0.05 were accepted as statistically significant. Results: The study and control group consisted of 84 and 78 patients, respectively. The mean ages of these groups were 52.6±13.07 years and 49.58±1.48 years respectively. There were no significant differences between body mass indexes and lipid parameters of the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusions: As a result, we could not determine any significant difference between two groups for any of the lipid parameters. Also there were no correlation between any lipid parameters, size or number of stones.
