The present study is a retrospective case-control study which was aimed and designed to investigate the relationship betwe¬en urinary bladder cancer and its etiologic factors and the de¬mographic properties of the patients in Turkey. A questionn¬aire asking demographic and etiologic properties was applied to 208 patient and 162 controls. The ratio of male to female was 6/1 and most of the patients were in the 6-7th decade of their lives. Most of the patients came from middle and low social classes. Many patients were born and still living in the Marmara Region. In 33.7 % of cases the blood group was 0 Rh(+). In the case group, exposure of the patients to high risk chemical materials, like dye, textile, metal and rubber were highly common (49.4 %). Among the patients, the rate of smoking was 82.7 %. Using of sweeteners was as high as 12.5 %. In the family histories of many cases, the number of can¬cer patients in the family was more than one.

Araştırma, toplumumuzda mesane kanserinin etiyolojik faktörlerle ilişkisini ve hastaların demografik özelliklerini değerlendirmek amacıyla planlanmış retrospektif bir vaka-kontrol araştırmasıdır. 208 hasta ve 162 kontrole demografik ve etiyolojik özellikleri sorgulayan bir anket uygulandı. Erkek/ kadın oranı 6/1 ve hastaların çoğunluğu 6-7. dekadda, orta ve alt sosyal sınıftandı. Doğdukları ve yaşadıkları bölge çoğunlukla Marmara'ydı. Hasta grubunun %33.7sinin kan grubunun 0 Rh(+) olduğu saptandı. Hasta grubunda, özellikle boya, tekstil, metal, lastik gibi riskli kimyasal madde maruziyetine yüksek oranda rastlandı (%49.4). %12.5 oranda tadlandırıcı kullanımı olduğu görüldü. Birçok hastada, ailede birden fazla kanser olgusu gözlendi.
