Abstract (2. Language):
Purpose: Purpose of this study was to determine the type and morphology of the patella in Turkish adult population. Patient and Methods: One hundred cases were chosen from patients, who were admitted to Orthopaedic and Traumotology polyclinic, with different knee complaints and having arthroscopic surgery endication. One hundred tangential patella X-ray re-evaluated from previously performed routine knee X-rays. Mean age of patients is 51 (18-93). Patella types were determined according to Wiberg and Baumgartle classification. Results: Type I, II, and III were % 24, % 70, and % 6, respectively. No type IV was observed. Conclusion: In spite of few reports about this subject, there was no differences in patella types between Turkish population and other communities according to our study. There was no specific distribution of patella types in Turkish population. We think that relationship between specific patella types and patellafemoral diseases can be revealed by more extensive studies.
