Abstract (2. Language):
New diagnostic methods are being introduced to evaluate coronary artery disease, owing to the advances in technology in the recent years. One of these is intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), which is a completing method of coronary angiography. This technique is based on the imaging by an ultrasound catheter introduced from femoral artery and advanced into the coronary arteries. IVUS provides information about arterial wall structure, atherosclerotic plaque density and flow characteristics of obstructed vessel. It is a unique method for demonstration of the atherosclerotic disease process in vivo. Despite some obstacles, the data obtained by IVUS could not be provided by other imaging modalities. IVUS has provided revolutionary progress in invasive cardiology and changed the clinical decisions to a great extend
