Children with special needs and their both daily life and education have been ignored until recent years.
However, in 1997 The Special Education Law was accepted by Turkish National Assembly. In part 1 and section 8 of
this law it is defined that for people who cannot fulfill the requirements of compulsory education, necessary institutions
should be found by orginizing and developing programmes including their performance levels according to their developmental
domains. Moreover, in section 6 it is also pointed out that service of special education for early childhood
should be based on acknowledging and supporting parents in both home context and institutions. Since then there has
been an increasing rate of researches in this area. Considering the importance of education for children with special
needs this research aims at examining the concepts of play and toys which are used for attaining the goals of special
education and the implementations of play during the educational process. Literature about children with special needs’
play conditions, their parents’ toy choices and attitudes toward play and the contribution of the knowledge of which plays
and play equipment are helpful for development of those children was reviewed for the purpose of research. Important
inferences were made about children’s with autism, down syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder attitudes,
and their parents’ perceptions, attitudes and knowledge levels about play, toys and play interventions. Regarding the results, in Turkey there is need for further both qualitative and quantitative researches to investigate in home context and
educational settings of children with special needs.Abstract (Original Language):
Özel eğitime muhtaç çocukların hem günlük yaşantıları hem de eğitimleri son yıllara kadar göz ardı edilmiştir.
Ancak TBMM 1997’de Özel Eğitim Yasasını kabul etmiştir. Bu kanunun birinci bölüm sekizinci maddesinde zorunlu
ilköğretim programlarının amaçlarını gerçekleştirecek durumda olmayan bireyler için gelişim alanlarındaki performans
düzeyleri dikkate alınarak hazırlanmış eğitim programlarının uygulanacağı kurumlar açılması gerektiği belirtilmiştir.
Ek olarak, madde 6’da erken çocukluk dönemindeki özel eğitim hizmetleri ailenin bilgilendirilmesi ve desteklenmesi
temeline dayalı olarak evlerde ve kurumlarda sürdürülür denmektedir. Bu tarihten sonra alandaki araştırmalar artan bir
ivme kazanmıştır. Özel eğitime muhtaç çocukların eğitimine verilmesi gereken önemden yola çıkarak bu çalışmanın
amacı eğitim sürecindeki oyun uygulamaları ve amaçlara ulaşmada kullanılan oyun ve oyuncak kavramlarının incelenmesidir.
Çalışmanın amacına uygun biçimde özel eğitime muhtaç çocukların oyun durumları, ailelerinin oyunlara ve
oyuncaklara olan tutumları ve hangi oyun ve oyun araçlarının bu çocukların gelişimleri için faydalı olacağının bilgisinin
katkılarına yönelik literatür taranmıştır. Çalışma sonunda oyun, oyuncak ve oyun müdahalelerine yönelik otistik, down
sendromlu, yaygın gelişimsel geriliği olan çocukların tutumları ve ailelerinin algıları, bilgi düzeyleri, tutumları ile ilgili
önemli sonuçlar çıkarılmıştır. Sonuçlar göz önüne alındığında, Türkiye’de özel eğitime muhtaç çocukların ev ve eğitim
ortamlarını inceleyecek hem nitel hem de nicel yapılacak çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
