Abstract (2. Language):
Distraction osteogenesis is a biological process involving the formation of new bone between viable bone seg-ments that are gradually separated by traction. Recently, this technic has been gained more popularity in treat-ment of craniofacial deformities. In this review, we explo-red the definition, history and indications of distraction osteogenesis along with the biological fundamentals and phases of this method. Moreover, advantages of maxillo-facial distraction osteogenesis than other conventional methods, complications and future prospects are other subjects of this article.
