The aim of this study was to investigate the factors effecting English instructors’ job fit perceptions and behaviors in higher education. In this research, qualitative method was applied. Convenient sampling method was used. The sample was 14 English instructors at two state universitiesin İstanbul. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form consisting of 11 questions. For form development, literature was reviewed, expert advise was obtained and pilot study was administered. For data analysis, descriptive and content analysis were conducted. The answers were categorized through thematic coding in accordance with literature and data. To assure reliability, the results were reexamined and confirmed by experts. The themes were supported through direct quotations from participants’ utterances. These themes were ‘Relationships with Administrators, Colleagues and Students’, ‘Personal Characteristics’, ‘Features regarding the Structure of the Job’, ‘Features regarding the Structure and Culture of the Institution’, and ‘Features regarding the Work Environment’.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, yükseköğretim kurumlarında çalışan İngilizce okutmanlarının uyum algı ve davranışlarını etkileyen unsurları incelemektir. Araştırma modeli olarak, nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma evrenini İstanbul’daki iki devlet üniversitesinde görev yapan İngilizce okutmanları oluşturmaktadır. Örneklem ise gönüllülük esası ile seçilen 14 İngilizce okutmanından oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri 11 adet açık uçlu görüşme sorusu oluşturularak görüşme yöntemiyle toplanmıştır. Görüşme formunun oluşturulmasında ilgili alanyazın taranmış, uzman görüşüne başvurulmuş ve pilot çalışma yürütülmüştür. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, “birey-iş uyumu” ile ilgili alanyazın doğrultusunda verilerde ortaya çıkan temalar kodlanmıştır. Verilerin analizinden elde edilen sonuçlar uzmanlara gösterilerek uzlaşı sağlanması ile araştırmanın güvenirliği teyid edilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda oluşturulan temalar katılımcı cevaplarından elde edilen verinin doğrudan alıntılanıp aktarılması yoluyla desteklenmiştir. Bu temalar sırasıyla ‘Yönetici, Meslektaş ve Öğrencilerle İlişkiler’, ‘Bireysel Özellikler’, ‘İşin Yapısına ilişkin Özellikler’, ‘Kurum Yapısı ve Kültürüne ilişkin Özellikler’, ‘Çalışma Ortamına ilişkin Özellikler’ olarak kodlanmıştır.
