The Battle of Muhi which took place on 11 April 1241 between the Mongolian and
Hungarian armies is one of the milestones for Hungarian history as well as Mongolian
History. While the Hungarian Kingdom in Europe was gaining strength daily, the
Mongolian Empire in the Asia was expanding its borders and looking for ways to push
towards West. After the Mongolian Army started to push towards West, they defeated
the Kama Bulgarians, Russians, Cumans, Poles and Germens consecutively and then
defeated the Hungarian Kingdom, one of the most powerful countries in Europe at that
time and continued their push towards West.
What happened before the Battle of Muhi has been discussed among the
historians until today with various views of how the battle happened and what happened
after the battle. The aftermath of the Battle of Muhi and pushing of the Mongols
towards West have been affected the Hungary and European history for a long time.
The article evaluates the Battle of Muhi in a very broad perspective starting from the
conditions of the field where the battle commenced to what happened one day before
the battle; from the comparison of Battle of Muhi to Battle of Kalka River (31 May
1223), to the evaluation of the psychological warfare successfully applied by
Mongolians and approaches the Battle of Muhi with new viewpoints in the light of the
new information provided by modern sources.

11 Nisan 1241 tarihinde Macar ve Moğol ordular. aras.nda cereyan eden Muhi
Muharebesi Macar tarihinin olduğu kadar, Moğol tarihinin de önemli dönüm
noktalar.ndan birisidir. Avrupa’da Macar Krall.ğ. günden güne güçlenirken, Asya’da da
Moğol İmparatorluğu s.n.rlar.n. gitgide genişletmekte ve bat.ya doğru ilerlemenin
yollar.n. aramaktad.r. Bat. yönünde ilerlemeye başlayan Moğol güçleri karş.lar.na ç.kan
Kama Bulgarlar.n., Rus, Kuman, Leh ve Germen kuvvetlerini birbiri ard.na yendikten
sonra Ortaçağda Avrupa’n.n en güçlü ülkelerinden biri olan Macar Krall.ğ.’n. da
mağlup etmişler ve bat. yönündeki ilerleyişlerini sürdürmüşlerdir.
Muhi Muharebesi’nin öncesinde yaşan.lan gelişmeler, muharebenin cereyan ediş
tarz. ve muharebe sonras. vuku bulan olaylar günümüzde dahi tarihçiler aras.nda çeşitli
vesilelerle tart.ş.lmaktad.r. Moğollar.n bat.ya doğru ilerleyişi ve Muhi Muharebesi’nden
sonra gelişen olaylar uzun y.llar boyunca Macar ve Avrupa tarihini derinden
etkilemiştir. Makale, Muhi Muharebesi’ni muharebenin yaşand.ğ. mevkiinin arazi
şartlar.ndan muharebeden önceki gece yaşanan olaylara; Muhi Muharebesi’nin Kalka
Nehri Muharebesi (31 May.s 1223) ile karş.laşt.r.lmas.ndan Moğollar.n başar.yla
uygulad.ğ. psikolojik savaş yönteminin incelenmesine kadar oldukça geniş bir
perspektiften incelemekte ve çağdaş kaynaklar.n sunduğu bilgilerin .ş.ğ.nda Muhi
Muharebesi’ni yeni bak.ş aç.lar.yla ele almaktad.r.
