Thanks to the artifacts unearthed and the written sources, we know that the entertainment and the festivities had played important role in the Roman life. The chariot races ludi circenses, fights against animals venationes, theatre plays fudi scaenid and gladiator fights munera were the kinds of entertainments in which Roman people had taken part as spectators. There were the board games excavated in Turkey, Italy and Egypt among these entertainment resources. One of the board games was marble game duodecim scripta which is depicted in the museums of Ephesus and Side and in the ancient cities of Aphrodisias and Perge. In this article, Roman board and dice games are introduced and the information about how to play duodecim scripta is given. Therefore, the article aims at giving glimpse into Roman entertainment life.

Arkeolojik buluntulardan ve yazın kaynaklarından anlıyoruz ki eğlence ve şenlikler Roma hayatında önemli bir yere sahipti. İki tekerlekli at arabası yarışlan ludi circenses, hayvan dövüşleri uenailones, tiyatro gösterileri ludi scaenîci, gladyatör dövüşleri munera Roma halkının rağbet ettiği eğlence türleriydi. Bu eğlenceler arasında italya'da, Mısır'da ve Türkiye'de arkeolojik kazılar sonucu bulunan tahta oyunları da bulunmaktadır. Bu oyunlardan bir tanesi de Side ve Efes müzelerinde, Perge ve Aphrodisias antik kentlerinde görülen mermerden yapılmış duodecim scripta oyunudur. Bu çalışmada Roma tahta ve zar oyunları tanıtılacak ve duodecim scripta oyununun nasıl oynandığı konusunda bilgi verilecektir. Böylece, Roma eğlence hayatına zayıf da olsa bir ışık tutulmaya çalışılacaktır.
