ERROR ANALYSIS STUDY IN THE CONTEXT OF TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The purpose of this research is to investigate the success levels of seventh and eighth grade students in the context of certain question types and vocabulary, offer resolution advisory in consequence of examining the student’s failure and make the foreign language teaching easy. 100 seventh grade and 100 eighth grade students, who have received education in public primary schools in Gümüşhane, have participated in this research. For data collection, questionnaires including certain question types have been prepared for seventh and eighth grade classes after interviews with specialists in the field of language teaching. The obtained data has been resolved by percentages and frequency analyzing, thereafter the errors made by the students have been analyzed. As a result of error analysis, it is understood that the most frequent errors are overt errors.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim 7. ve 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin, İngilizce öğrenme sürecinde belirli soru türleri ve sözcük bilgisi düzlemlerinde başarı durumlarını saptamak, öğrenci başarısızlıklarının irdelenmesi sonucunda çözüm önerileri sunmak ve yabancı dil öğretimini kolaylaştırmaktır. Araştırmaya Gümüşhane ilindeki devlet ilköğretim okullarında öğrenim gören 100 7. sınıf, 100 8. sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır. Verinin toplanması için alan uzmanları ile yapılan görüşmeler sonucunda her iki sınıf için, belirli soru türlerini kapsayan sormacalar hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen veri, yüzde değerleri ve sıklık incelemesi ile çözümlenmiş, daha sonra öğrencilerin yaptıkları hataların çözümlenmesine geçilmiştir. Hata çözümlemesi sonucu öğrencilerin en sık yaptıkları hataların açık hata olduğu görülmektedir.
