Abstract (2. Language):
The aim of this sLudy was to compare dental caries prevalence, gingival health and oral hygiene in the patients with Leukemia with the same age group healthy people, and to research the effect to the periodontal tissues of plaque elimination realized by professional and individual denial care, 79 patients, the ages of whom vary from 3 to ı /, who had chemotherapy as acute Leukemia at Atatürk University Pediatry Clinic, were compared with 58 healthy children. The patients were evaluated by being divided into four groups as 3-5, 10-15, and 14-17 year-old. Later, professional dental care applications were compared with the individual ones in Leukemia cases in 14-17 aged-group. A positive correlation was found between DMFT, dmft scores and the age in the paLient group. Although a statistical distinction from the point of dmft scores in 3-5 aged group couldn't be found between the patient group and control group (p>0.05) a statistical distinction was able to be found in 10-13 and 14-17 aged groups (p<0.QOI, p<0-01). The reason of statistical distinction was that D score was high in 10-13 aged group, and that F score was high in 14-17 aged-group. Plaque and gingival index scores of patient and control group were similar. There were negative correlations between the age and index scores of both groups. It was observed that there was no statistical distinction between individual dental care applications and professional in 14-17 aged group (p>0.t)5). Consequently, It was determined that according to healthy people chemotherapy didn't affect oral hygiene and gingival health, ant that the age factor was more important for both groups, ft was concluded that professional denial care wasn't essential in these patients and oral hygiene reinforcement was adequate.
