VIEWS OF THE 8TH GRADE STUDENTS’ ABOUT THE ASTRONOMY SUBJECTS
THROUGH THEIR PRIMARY EDUCATION LIFE

The aim of this study was to determine 8th grade students’ views about the astronomy subjects through their
primary education life. Qualitative research approach is used in this study and semi-structured interview has
been used as a data collection tool. With 12 students who are studying at elemantary school in Corum from 8th
grade were interviewed. NVİVO9.O program was used to analyze the interviews. The results of analysis are
determined that students like intructions supported with visual materials such as documentary and animation
films about astronomy, students are not interested in astronomy subjects because they are the last subjects so
they are ignored and teaching is based on oral language and students want this units should be taught at the
start or middle of term. It has been suggested that astronomy subjects should be supported with visual
materials and should not be end of the cirruculum.

Bu çalışma, 8.sınıf öğrencilerinin temel eğitimleri boyunca gördükleri astronomi konuları hakkındaki görüşlerini
belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımının kullanıldığı bu çalışmada veri toplama
aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme kullanılmıştır. Çorum’da temel eğitimlerini tamamlamak üzere olan on
iki öğrenci ile görüşme yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerin analizinde NVIVO 9.0 programı kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler
sonucu öğrencilerin Astronomi ile ilgili belgesel ve animasyon gibi görsel materyallerle ders işlenmesinden keyif
aldığı; konuların son ünite olması nedeniyle işlenmediği, düz anlatımla geçiştirilmesi nedeniyle astronomi
konularına ilgi duymadıkları, astronomi konularının sene başında ya da ortasında işlenmesini istedikleri tespit
edilmiştir. Yapılan değerlendirmede astronomi konularının eğitim-öğretim konularının son ünitelere
konulmaması, astronomi konularının işlenirken görsel materyallerle desteklenmesi gerektiği önerilmiştir.
