Abstract (2. Language):
This study was conductedin the Fall semester of 2005 at Gazi University Faculty of
Education with the participation of 192 teacher candidates from different majors and
years. There were four multiple choice problems that can be solved by using momentum
and impulse concepts in the survey. Participants were also required to give extended
responses for each problem. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of
successful application of momentum and impulse concepts to the problems. Findings
reveal that students experience difficulties in applying impulse-momentum theorem to
the problems. The major difficulties were not drawing limits of the system examined,
disregarding internal/external forces, and ignoring that momentum is a vector quantity.

Bu çalışma, Gazi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde farklıanabilimdalıve sınıflarda öğrenim gören
192 öğrencinin katılımıile 2001 güz dönemi başlangıcında gerçekleştirilmiştir.
Öğretmen adaylarına momentum ve impuls kavramlarınıkullanarak çözülebilecek
çoktan seçmeli cevaplar içeren dört problem yöneltilmiştir. Ancak katılımcılardan
cevaplarınıaçıklamalarıda istenmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı, öğrencilerin bu problemlere
cevap verirken, momentum ve impuls kavramlarınıuygulama düzeylerini tespit etmektir.
Elde edilen bulgular momentumun korunumu ve impuls-momentum teoreminin
problemlere uygulanmasıaşamasında sorunların olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu
sorunların başlıcaları; ele alınan sistemin sınırlarının çizilmemesi, iç/dışkuvvetlerin
dikkate alınmamasıve momentumun vektörel bir büyüklük olduğunun göz ardı
edilmesidir
