From it’s establishment in 1882 on, The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce showed a close interest towards highway and railroad transportation in Ottoman lands. The Chamber pointed to the infrastructure deficiencies and declared that it would be appropriate to give precedence do the development of highways and railroads over commercial and industrial facilities. For commercial and industrial development, the Chamber demanded in a 1885 report from the government the rehabilitation of the land routes structure and the building of railroads. These demands were regarded by the government and partly found the opportunity to materialize. The Chamber showed it’s appreciation of government initiatives aiming the development of transportation in the country. Fehmi Pasha, the Minister of Public Works was congratulated by the Chamber for his efforts on the development of transportation as the main veins for commerce. On the other hand, the chamber shared an elaborative evaluation of problems related to road construction in the country with the public. The chamber also showed close interest with the railroads which at the time were being constructed throughout the empire, sharing the latest news on the progression of the railroads by it’s official newspaper with the public. Railroad news were presented frequently in the Dersaadet Chamber of Commerce Gazette.

Dersaadet Ticaret Odası 1882 yılında kuruluşundan sonra Osmanlı ülkesindeki kara ve demir yolu ulaşımı ile yakından ilgilendi. Nitekim bu konuda altyapı eksikliklerine dikkat çekerek, ticaret ve sanayi tesislerinden önce kara ve demiryollarının geliştirilmesinin isabetli olacağını dile getirdi. 1885 yılında hazırladığı bir raporda, hükümetten, ülkede ticaret ve sanayinin geliştirilebilmesi için öncelikli olarak mevcut yolların rehabilite edilmesi ve demiryolları yapılmasını talep etti. Dersaadet Ticaret Odası’nın talepleri hükümet tarafından dikkate alındı ve bir kısmı da yerine getirildi. Oda, ülkedeki ulaşımın geliştirilmesi yönünde hükümetin yaptığı çalışmaları takdirle karşılıyordu. Nitekim ticaretin ana damarları olan ulaşımın geliştirilmesi hususunda gösterdiği gayretlerden dolayı Nafia Nazırı Fehmi Paşa’yı kutladı. Öte yandan Oda, Mart 1891’de uzun bir değerlendirme yaparak ülkedeki yol yapımıyla ilgili sorunları kamuoyuyla paylaştı. Öte yandan Ticaret Odası, imparatorluğun muhtelif bölgelerinde yapımları devam eden demiryolu hatlarıyla da yakından ilgileniyor, bu hatların son durumları hakkında edindiği bilgileri gazetesi vasıtasıyla halka duyuruyordu. Dersaadet Ticaret Odası Gazetesi sayfalarında bir çok demiryolu haberine rastlamak mümkündü.
