The concept of mobbing in the workplace has firstly been used by Leymann in the last decade of the twentieth century. As a concept, mobbing has been recognized as a psychological harassment without direct physical assault. The aim of this study is to present the main findings from a recent survey of banking sector on the nature, the causes and results of mobbing, which was undertaken among 403 respondents between March and October 2004 in Turkey in the city of Istanbul. The figures indicated that the prevalence level of mobbing was 25. The victims reported supervisors/managers as mobbers often.

"Psikolojik taciz" (mobbing), kavramının ilk olarak çalışma hayatında kullanılması 1980'lİ yıllarda Heinz Leymann tarafından başlatılmıştır. Kavram olarak psikolojik taciz, doğrudan fiziksel saldırılar dışında kalan her türlü psikolojik saldırı davranışlarım tanımlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'de İstanbul ilinde bankacılık sektöründe psikolojik tacizin niteliği, nedenleri ve sonuçlarına ilişkin olarak gerçekleştirilen bir araştırmanın sonuçlarını ortaya koymaktır. Araştırma Mart-Araltk 2004 tarihleri arasında 403 denekle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucuna göre, bankacılık sektöründe her dört çalışandan biri mesleki kariyeri boyunca psikolojik tacize maruz kalmaktadır. Deneklerin psikolojik taciz davranışlarının daha çok amirlerden kaynaklandığını bildirmektedirler.
