Abstract (2. Language):
The romantic poet John Keats, in his poem “La Belle Dame Sans Merci”, explores the artist’s traditional descent to the underworld. The persona, a knight-at-arms, grapples with death in the dark deep and is reborn as a poet. In the fertile underworld, he meets with the dead who exist beyond time and thus hold the knowledge and stories of the past and also know the present and future. The poet-persona derives inspiration from the dead and returns to the world above with the mission of restoring depth to the superficial life and knowledge on earth.
