Abstract (2. Language):
This study aims at identifying primary school students' perceptions of affection and mercy values by use of a cartoon. The study group consisted of 73 5th grade primary school students was identified via maximal variation sampling a purposefull sampling strategy in qualitative inquiry approach. The data of the study were collected through a study sheet including five open ended questions germane to the cartoon. The results showed that almost all the students perceived the right message in the cartoon. Most of the students stated that the man in the cartoon fell from affection, mercy and zoolatry. Moreover, about half of the students depicted that they would have restrained the man from swatting, if they were there. Finally, findings manifested taht the man in the cartoon cannot describe the word mercy and that this word is trivia for him.

Bu çalışma, ilköğretim beşinci sınıf öğrencilerinin şefkat ve merhamet değer algılarının karikatür yoluyla belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. 73 ilköğretim beşinci sınıf öğrencisinden oluşan çalışma grubu nitel araştırma yaklaşımı içinde yer alan amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden maksimum çeşitlilik örneklemesi yapılarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada verileri, karikatürle ilgili beş açık uçlu soruyu içeren çalışma yaprağı aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Bulgular öğrencilerin hemen hemen tamamının karikatürdeki mesajı doğru olarak algıladıklarını ortaya koymuştur. Öğrencilerin çoğu karikatürdeki adamın bu davranışı ile şefkat ve merhametini, hayvan sevgisi duygusunu kaybettiğini belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin yarısına yakını orada olsaydım adamın foka vurmasını engellerdim şeklinde görüş belirtmişlerdir. Öğrencilerin yarısından fazlası karikatürdeki adam için merhamet kelimesini tarif demeyeceğini ve merhametin bu adam için önemsiz olduğunu belirttikleri görülmüştür.
