Abstract (2. Language):
There have been important modifications in the roles and functions of university counseling services related to the rapid social, cultural, economical and political changes in the last years. Thus, beside the traditional basic roles on academic and career development, the increase and changes related to the personal and social problems of university students requires the reassessment of the basic roles and functions of university counseling services currently. With this background, the aim of this study is to assess the last improvements related to the basic roles and functions of university counseling services by considering the common themes appearing through the historical developments and current issues. In addition, the existent limitations and solutions are proposed based on the accreditation standards stated by International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) in order to increase the effectiveness of university counseling services in Turkey.
