The purpose of this study is to investigate university students' understanding of the concept of natural selection, adaptation and mutation. 77 third year Biology students and 78 Science Education students participated in this study. To reveal the students understanding 6 item multiple-choice (two-tier) test was used. Results of responses on the two-tier items showed that many students had a lack of understanding these concepts. Students answers of these subjects represented that students had wrong ideas relating to Lamarckian evolution and Darwin's theory. We concluded this study with suggestions that correct teaching of these subjects.

Bu çalışmanın amacı üniversite öğrencilerinin Evrim konusunun temel dinamiklerinden olan doğal seçilim, adaptasyon ve mutasyon konuları hakkındaki görüşlerinin belirlenmesidir. Çalışmaya 78 Biyoloji Bölümü ve 77 Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği öğrencisi katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin görüşlerinin saptanması için 6 maddeden oluşan çoktan seçmeli bir test (two-tier) kullanılmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre üniversite öğrencilerinin doğal seçilim, adaptasyon ve mutasyon konularındaki bilimsel bilgilerinin eksik olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu konulara yönelik yanıtlar, öğrencilerin Lamark'ın evrim görüşü ve Darwin'in evrim teorisi hakkında karmaşık fikirlere sahip olduklarını göstermiştir. Çalışma evrim konusunun doğru olarak öğretimi ile ilgili önerilerle sonuçlandırılmıştır.
