Work and environment conditions are the main cause of stress and many problems related to stress is known as the illness of modern age. People react to the problems psychological, physical and behavioral ways. All of these reactions differ in order to new conditions. Failing adapt to changing conditions would decrease the individual performance. Teaching is accepted as a more stressful job than others in the literature. Stress among teachers occurs as a consequence of individual variables and school characteristics. In this paper, sources of stress, their effects on elementary teachers and coping strategies are explained. Based on research findings, the concept of stress then sources of stress as well as their effects are discussed.

Değişen iş ve çevre koşulları, çağımızın hastalığı olarak adlandırılan stres ve strese bağlı pek çok sorunun ortaya çıkmasına neden olmaktadır. Birey, yaşamını sürdürürken sorunlar karşısında psikolojik, fizyolojik ve davranışsal tepkiler vermektedir. Bu tepkilerin hepsi ortaya çıkan yeni koşullara uyum sağlamaya yönelik olmaktadır. Değişen koşullara uyum sağlayamamak ve bunun gerilimini yaşamak ise bireyin performansını azaltabilmektedir. Literatürde öğretmenlik mesleğinin diğer mesleklerden daha fazla stresli olduğu belirtilmektedir. Öğretmenlerde stres, bireysel değişkenlerden ve çalışılan okulun özelliklerinden kaynaklanarak her bireyde farklı biçimlerde ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu bildiride, temel eğitimdeki öğretmenlerin stres kaynaklarının neler olduğu, öğretmenler üzerindeki etkileri ve başa çıkma teknikleri tartışılmaktadır. İlgili literatür taranarak, stres kavramının nasıl ele alındığı incelenmiş, ardından araştırma bulgularına dayalı olarak öğretmenlerde stres yaratan etkenler, öğretmenler üzerindeki psikolojik, fizyolojik ve davranışsal etkileri ve bunlarla başa çıkma teknikleri ortaya konulmuştur.
