Unemployment and unemployment related problems have been often brought into the agenda of Turkey and the world in recent years. Psycho-social problems of individuals, families and naturally the societies which are related to unemployment might be more devastating than the unemployment related economic losses in many cases. The effect of unemployment on individuals' mental health and the types of unemployment related family problems contitute the main task of this study. There are different processes peculiar to countries for the negative results of unemployment as well as the world-wide known common problems. In order to fight with the negative results of unemployment, these diferences must be understood and applied on solutions by the policy makers in Turkey and other countries.

Son yıllarda Türkiye'de ve dünyada, işsizlik ve işsizlikle ilgili sorunlar her platformda sıklıkla gündeme getirilmektedir. İşsizlik, neden olduğu ekonomik kayıplar yanında, bireylere, ailelere ve dolayısıyla topluma verdiği psiko-sosyal zararlarla birçok durumda daha da yıkıcı olabilmektedir. İşsizliğin bireylerin mental sağlığı üzerindeki etkisi ve ailelerin işsizlikten etkilenme şekilleri, bu çalışmanın başlıca konusunu teşkil etmektedir. İşsizliğin tüm dünyada bilinen ortak olumsuz sonuçlarının yanında, ülkeler arası farklılıklar nedeniyle oluşan farklı sorun süreçleri de mevcuttur. İşsizliğin olumsuz sonuçlarıyla mücadele etmek açısından bu farklılıkların gerek Türkiye'de gerekse diğer ülkelerde politika yapıcılar tarafından anlaşılması ve sorunların çözümünde dikkate alınması gereklidir.
