Asaf Hâlet Çelebi, one of the prominent poets of the Republic period, tries to deal with the subjects he chooses in his poetry in a childish approach and in an atmosphere of a tale. Asaf Hâlet Çelebi, who is noted for child affection in universal terms retains this aspect of achild whether in his poems or in his whole life. Reinterpreding the tongue-twisters and the tales he listened to in his childhood, the poet uses them in his poems. These tales and tongue-twisters are the elements that provide the major source of his poetry in terms of both content and harmony. Çelebi’s turning to tales in his poetry is directed at concretising sometimes his philosophical ideas together with social criticism and sometimes his desire for search for the happiness, escaping from the reality itself. Tales that are primary factor of inspiration for his poetry consist of not only Turkish tales, but Indian, Iranian and French ones as well.

Cumhuriyet Dönemi’nin önemli sairlerinden Asaf Hâlet Çelebi, siirinde ele aldığı temaların çoğunu çocuksu bir bakıs açısı ve masalsı bir havayla islemeye çalısır. Evrensel anlamda çocuk sevgisine sahip olan Asaf Hâlet Çelebi, gerek siirlerinde gerekse gerçek hayatında bu çocuk yönünü muhafaza eder. O, çocukluğunda dinlediği masal ve tekerlemeleri yeniden yorumlayarak onları siirine malzeme yapar. Masal ve tekerleme hem ahenk hem de içerik bakımından onunu siirini besleye unsurlardır. Asaf Hâlet’te masala sığınma bazen gerçeklerden kaçınarak mutluluğu arama özlemi, bazen sosyal elestiri bazen de felsefî görüslerini somutlastırmaya yöneliktir. Siirine ilham veren masallar yalnız Türk masalları olmayıp Hint, Đran ve Fransız masalları da onun siirine kaynaklık eder.
