Concordence of intestinal metaplasia (IM) with Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and the role of Helicobacter pylori in pathogenesis of intestinal metaplasia have been reported in many reviews. We researched for the frequency and types of IM and concordence of Hp in 122 cases diagnosed as chronic gastritis in Uludag University Medical Faculty during the 8 months in this prospective study. The median age of IM cases was 50.78±9.76. The age limits of IM cases were 30-65 and female / male ratio was 2/5. PAS / Alcian Blue pH=2,5 ve High Iron Diamine / Alcian Blue pH=2,5 combined stains were applied to biopsy materials that were prediagnosed as IM to distinguish siyalo and sulphomusine. IM cases were grouped according to Filipe Classification. IM was obtained in 14 (%11.5) of 122 cases. IM was type I in 4 (%28.6), type II in 9 (%64.3) cases and type III in 1 (%7.1) case. Hp was positive in %50 of type I and %66.7 of type II IM cases. One case diagnosed as type III was negative for Hp.

İntestinal metaplazinin (İM) Helicobacter pylori (Hp) enfeksiyonu ile sıkı bir birliktelik gösterdiği, Hp’nin İM patogenezinde kolaylaştırıcı rol oynadığı birçok kaynakta bildirilmiştir. Biz de yaptığımız prospektif çalışmada 8 aylık bir süre boyunca Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi (UÜTF) Patoloji Anabilim Dalında (ABD) biyopsi materyallerinde gastrit tanısı alan 122 olguda İM varlığının sıklığını, tiplerini ve Hp ile olan birlikteliğini araştırdık. İM’li olguların yaş ortalaması 50.78±9.76 olarak gözlendi. İM’li olguların yaş sınırları 30-65 olup, kadın / erkek oranı 2 / 5 idi. İM düşünülen biyopsi materyallerine siyalomüsin ve sülfomüsini ayırt etmek amacıyla PAS / Alcian Blue pH=2,5 ve High Iron Diamine / Alcian Blue pH=2,5 kombine boyaları uygulanarak Filipe klasifikasyonuna göre İM tiplendirildi. 122 olgudan 14’ünde (%11.5) İM saptandı. İM, 4 olguda (%28.6) tip I, 9 olguda(%64.3) tip II, 1 olguda (%7.1) ise tip III şeklindeydi. Tip I’de %50, tip II’de % 66.7 oranında Hp pozitifliği saptanırken tip III İM’li 1 olgu Hp negatifti
